Part of what has always made this region along the Louisiana Coast so special and fascinating is its people – strong folks who have weathered countless storms and emerged better for it. But there’s something here that’s even sturdier than the people … hundreds of live oak trees that have been witness to history and heritage up and down Bayou Lafourche. It simply took the vision and dedication of one clever resident to figure out a way to share the oaks’ stories with a wide audience. With help from a grant issued by Louisiana’s Cajun Bayou Tourism, today Thibodaux William “Bill” Guion officially launched the Lafourche Live Oak Tour, a driving tour designed to help visitors and locals alike explore a fascinating new tourism route. Or maybe that should be tourism “root” – tree pun intended.
