AARP's Best Beaches of 2019

Yen miles of emerald water and fine-grained white-quartz sand beckon on the Gulf of Mexico near the Alabama-Florida state line. Recent renovations to Gulf Shores Public Beach brought a concrete boardwalk for walking and biking as well as improved lifeguard facilities. The Hangout, a wheelchair-accessible bar and restaurant on the beach, offers pickup games of Ping-Pong and foosball, plus live music. Away from the developed area, birders can spot more than 350 species at Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. Don't leave without savoring the area's flavorful royal red shrimp.
